This Kadalai Curry tastes so good that it can accompany Steamed rice,stringhoppers,Aappam,rice Noodles and other Indian Breads.U can try this dish omitting Yam or Channa or chickpeas.So yumm.. yumm.I employed short-cuts to make cooking easy and enjoyable.If U can pressure-cook Channa or Chickpeas and Yam separately upto 3 and 2 whistles respectively.U can add 2-3 grated coconut ground with 3/4 tsp Saunf seeds and 1/2 cumin seeds instead of coconutmilk.Enjoy this Easy dish and Ur Meal!.BonAppetit!.
Yam and Channa Masala - Yam pieces and Channa dhal cooked with spices
Ingredients:
100 gms yam(peeled and cut into small pieces)
1 cup black Channa Dal or White Chickpeas(soaked for 3 hours)
1 onion(small-sized,finely chopped)
1 tomato (finely chopped)
1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
2 red chillies
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
2 tbsp Coconut milk powder - dissolved in 250 ml luke-warm water
1/2 tsp saunf powder
3/4 tsp red chilli powder
a sprig curry leaves
few coriander leaves
1 tsp salt
2 tsp refined or coconut oil
Directions:
1.Soak channa dhal for 3 hours and Pressure-cook this with Yam pieces upto 3 whistles - using a separator with salt till soft.keep it aside.
2.Heat little oil in a non-stick frying pan. Splutter mustard seeds,red chillies,,curry leaves,chopped onions and chopped Tomatoes and saute it for 2 mins.
3.Add ginger-garlic paste,salt and turmeric powder and allow it to boil till the raw-odour diminishes.
4.Add the pressure-cooked Yam pieces and black-channa dal,Coconut milk (the ground masala) with few coriander leaves and Check for salt.Cook for 5 more mins.Turn off the flame.
5.Serve thisYam Kadalai Curry with Steamed Rice or Chapati,Idli,Aappam,Stringhoppers etc.
