Sambar Wheat

Sambar is an Authentic Dhal gravy of  South India. Whenever U hear the word Sambar- apart from the Gravy thing-the first one that comes to mind  is 'Sambar Rice or  Sadham'  and then 'Sambar Vada'-Vada soaked in Sambar and served as a snack.U can do one more memorable dish with this magic word.Try this fast and simple to make Sambar Wheat  and sit and watch ur family enjoy this lip-smacking wheat granules treat at any time.Try this at home and Enjoy ur Meal!.Bon Appetit!.

Sambar Wheat - Wheat granules done with dhal and veg

100 gm  toor dhal
100 gms  wheat granules
1 cup carrots and french beans(cut into small pieces)
1 drumstick(cut into small pieces)
3 no.s green chillies (slit lengthwise)
1/5 tsp turmeric powder
3/4 tsp salt (to taste)
1 big onion(chopped)
2 medium sized tomatoes(chopped)
1/5 tsp asafoetida powder
2 tbsp grated coconut-optional
water - x 3 times the quantity of toordhal  
1 tsp refined oil + 2 tsp ghee
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp chopped curry leaves
1 tbsp(1 tsp +1 tsp+1 tsp) chopped coriander leaves
1  tsp Aachi masala Sambar powder


1.Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds,chopped onions, chopped tomatoes,1 tsp chopped
coriander and curry leaves, green chillies, Sambar powder,turmeric powder and saute well for 2-3 minsand keep this aside.
2.Take a pressure pan and add asafoetida powder,turmeric powder,toor dhal and water and allow it to boil upto 5 whistle in a pressure pan.Turn off the flame.wait for the pressure to be released.
3.Add the vegetable pieces,Step 1 seasoning,washed and cleaned wheat granules,chopped coriander leaves and salt and cover the pressure pan and cook for one more whistle.
4.Remove from the fire and keep aside for 10 mins.
5.Open the pressure pan ,sprinkle a dash of ghee,add grated coconut and chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
6.Serve this Sambar Wheat granules alone or with mango thokku and papadam.U will LUV it!.
