Potato - Carrot Masala

This masala is a less-spiced accompaniment to Steamed rice and rasam or Yoghurt,Puri,Chapati or a filling for Masal Dosa.Try this once with Steamed Rice and rasam,U will ask both more.Kids will luv this colourful and mild taste match(side dish).Here is the recipe for u to try at home.Enjoy Cooking at home!.Bon Appetit!.Post ur valuable feedback here after trying this.

Potato - Carrot Masala - Potato Side dish Carrot


1 big potato - cut into 2 cm size
1 big carrot - Cut into 1 cm size
1 big onion - sliced lengthwise
1 small size tomato-sliced or 1/2 big tomato-sliced -optional
1/4 tsp grated ginger
2 green chillies - slit lengthwise
a pinch of turmeric powder
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
2 tsp split chanadal(kadalai paruppu)
1/4 tsp subji masala powder
1 sprig curry leaves
few coriander leaves
200 ml water
1 tsp salt or needed as per taste


1.Pressure cook potatoes upto 4 whistles with water covering the potatoes.Leave this for sometime to release the pressure.Peel off the skin and cut into cubes.
2.Heat oil in a kadai.Add mustard seeds,split chanadal and curry leaves.
3.Add slit green chillies and onion slices.Saute till this turns little brown.
4.Then add tomato slices and saute this till tomato begins to melt.
5.Add the carrot pieces and 150 ml water cover and cook for 10 mins.Add the boiled potato pieces together with turmeric powder,subji masala powder and salt.Let this cook for a minute.
6.Add 50 ml water and chopped coriander leaves.Mix this well.Cook for 3-4 mins till thickens.
7.Potato - Carrot Masala is ready to accompany main meals now.
