Onion Oats Dosa

U may be familiar with Onion Rava Dosa - a  famous South-Indian Breakfast Item. For an easy,healthy or light and better Dinner option, try this Onion Oats Dosa - which is equally adorable and tasty.Need to soak the dry ingredients in 2 1/2 to 3 cups water for 20 -30 mins to make the batter thick.If U have 1/2 cup left over Idli or Dosa batter,then add it to this Oats dosa mix instead of 1/4 cup rice flour in the following recipe.U can swap Oats and Rava in the Ingredients list to try Onion Rava Dosa with this recipe. U can do 10 -12 thin Onion Oats Dosa with it ands serves  4 nos.Try this recipe at home. Enjoy Ur Meal!. BonAppetit!

Onion Oats Dosai
Ingredients
1 1/4 cup Oats - ghee-roasted for a min
1/4 cup rava - dry roasted for 2 - 3 mins on low flame
1/4 cup rice flour
2-3 green chillies- finely chopped
2 tsp finely chopped coriander leaves
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup yoghurt
2 1/2 3 cups water
2-3 tbsp Oil - for making Dosa
1 onion - chopped fine
Seasoning:
1 tsp oil, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1/4 tsp cumin seeds,2 medium onions - finely chopped,a pinch of grated ginger,a pinch of asafoetida,3 pepper corns - half - crushed, 2 sprigs curry leaves
Directions
1.Take a borosil vessel and Mix Ghee-roasted Oats with dry roasted rava,rice flour,green chillies and baking soda well.
2.Then,add 2 1/2 - 3 cups water,coriander leaves and salt.Mix it well and kkep it aside for 30 mins to soak and get thick.
3.Heat one tsp refined oil and splutter mustard seeds,cumin seeds,grated ginger,asafoetida,3 pepper corns, curry leaves and chopped onions.Stir-fry it till onions gets done golden brown and add it to the batter.
4.Add in Yoghurt and 50 ml - 75 ml water if needed(the batter shd be loose and thin like it is for Aappam or
little thinner than the Dosa batter) and mix it well.
5.Rub oil on a  non-stick tawa / pan. Once it becomes hot enough,pour two ladleful of batter and spread it like u do for dosa and cook on medium-flame for 1 1/2 to 2 mins.Drizzle a dash of cooking oil along the edges of the dosai.
6.Carefully flip or turn the dosai and cook for a minute or 2 till it turns golden brown and crisp.Then, sprinkle 1 tbsp chopped onions at the centre and flip the Dosa edges towards the centre and serve.
7.Serve hot with Idli Chilli Powder or Sesame Chilli powder or Coconut or tomato chutney.

  10. Yummy! Sounds great...but could you tell me what to do if I dont have rice flour? Can i make it without this ingredient?

  11. @ Pri - nice to C U here Pri. If U don't have Rice flour(Dry or Puttu Flour),then Omit it and try or use little left-over Idli or Dosa batter 1/2 cup (70 - 100 ml). Hope this helps.
