Paruppu Podi is a chutney powder that can substitute a main or a sidedish to accompany steamed rice or Indian Breads like Idli or dosa to make cooking easy on a lazy day.It can be mixed with gingely or coconut oil or Ghee.U can do it without adding garlic,peanuts and Uradhal.It can be done adding them otherwise which improves the taste of this powder.The recipe is given here to try at home.BonAppetit!.
Paruppu Podi(Lentil Powder)
Ingredients:
100 gram dhal (kadalai paruppu)
50 gms peanuts - optional
15 garlic pearls-peeled - optional
50 gms tbsp split skinless urad dhal - optional
7-10 red chillies
1/2 tsp of asafoetida
1/2 tsp salt
few curryleaves
Directions:
1.Dry roast the peanuts in a kadai for 4 mins continuously till u get the peel-off of peanuts softly.Peel it.
2.Dry roast the urad dhal and Kadalai paruppu separately for 2-3 mins before they turn colour.Keep it aside
3.Dry roast the red chillies for 40-50 secs on good flame and keep it aside.
4.Add 1 tsp oil and roast garlic pearls and curry leaves for 30 secs on good flame.
5.Allow them to cool and dry-grind them to a fine powder.
6.Store it in an Airtight container to use it for a week or two.
