Raw Banana Puttu(Grated Raw Banana Stir-Fry)

A Tasty and popular side-dish of Tamil Nadu. Can be done in 15 mins time. Best taken with Rice and Sambar or Puzhi Kuzhambu or Karutha Puzhi Kuzhambu or Kara Kuzhambu or Fish Kuzhambu.

Raw Banana Puttu(Grated Raw Banana Stir-Fry) - Grated Raw Banana stir-fried with little spices


2 Raw Banana
3 tbsp grated coconut
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp split uraddal-skinless
3 whole red chillies
1/4 tsp turmeric powder(optional)
3 tbsp shallots(red onions)-chopped fine
few curry leaves
few coriander leaves
1 1/2 tsp salt-to taste
2 tsp refined oil
300 ml water


    1.Boil water in a Kadai.Add the raw bananas (with skin & cut into 2) and allow this to boil for 5-7 mins on medium flame till the raw banana  gets half-cooked.
    2.Drain the water.Put this raw banana pieces in cold water.Peel the skin and grate the raw banana and deep this aside.
    3.Heat oil in a kadai and add mustard seeds,uraddal,chopped onions,Whole red chillies and curry leaves, one-by-one,and saute for 2-3 mins.
    4.Add grated raw banana,turmeric powder (optional),coriander leaves and salt. Saute this till the raw banana mixed well (for abt 4 mins) - sprinkling 2 tbsp water on medium flame.
    5.Add the grated coconut and mix this well for 2 mins or till water runs dry on low flame.Turn off the flame.
    6.Serve this tasty Grated-Raw Banana Stir Fry hot with rice,sambar,Kara Kuzhambu or indian breads.
