Wish You all Happy Pongal.Pongal has been celebrated in TamilNadu as Harvest Festival by the Farmers. Traditionally a Jaggery and yellow mungdal with new grains added Sweet or Kheer will be done to celebrate the occasion. It can be tried with Oats in 12-14 mins time and turned out tasty too.U can try this recipe with Poha(Aval),Wheat granules,Vermicelli, Sago (Javarisi),Ragi Granules,Soy Granules,Basmati or raw rice etc. Here is the recipe for you to try at home. Oats Pongal
Ingredients:
3 tbsp Oats - ghee-roasted for 2-3 mins on low flame
50 gms yellow Mungdal (Split) - soaked for an hour
1 cup boiled lowfat milk or fresh coconutmilk( + 1 cup second coconut milk)
120 - 150gms Jaggery - made into syrup and strained
1 tbsp grated coconut
1/4 tsp cardamom powder or 3 Green cardamoms
few ghee roasted cashews and Raisins
Directions:
1.Boil yellow mungdal with 1 cup water.
2.When done add ghee-roasted Oats,cardamoms or cardamom powder and second coconutmilk and stir-cook for 2 mins till it gets thick.
3.Now add the jaggery syrup and Mix it well for 2 mins.
4.Add the first coconutmilk or milk and Stir-cook for 2-3 mins.
5.Add ghee roasted raisins and cashewnuts.
6.Serve it hot anytime or after a filling meal.
