Black Halwa (karuppu Halwa)

Black Halwa (Karuppu Halwa) is a  famous Rice halwa of Kerala - a rare delicacy.This is called Black because of the colour of the Halwa -as it is done with Jaggery Syrup or Black Jaggery(Karuppu Katti) sometimes.It is not easily available in other States.Can be done at home in 40-45 mins using raw rice flour (little maida can also be added to make it taste good).Very tasty is the dish that I wish to share the recipe with U all this Onam.Enjoy ur Evening time with this Halwa.BonAppetit!.

Black Halwa(Karuppu Halwa) prepared with rice flour and jaggery syrup.

Ingredients

200 gm Pacharisi or raw rice powder or Onakkalari
2-3 tbsp refined flour
1 cup fresh coconut thick milk
1 cup second coconutmilk
400 gms Jaggery -dissolved in 350 ml hot water and filered
100 gms ghee
3 nos Powdered green Cardamoms
15 ghee-roasted Cashew nuts
a pinch of nutmeg powder

Method

1. Take a large pan and add the coconut milk and the raw rice powder.Stir well make sure there are no lumps.
2.Add the filtered jaggery syrup and stir-cook with the refined flour.
3.When the mix gets thick,add ghee little and the first thick coconut milk.
4.Keep on stirring till the entire mix rolls well without sticking to the pan and adding ghee little by little.. 5.Add the ghee roasted cashews,powdered cardamoms and nutmegand stir it for cook for another 5-7 mins.
6.Grease the serving tray and pour the Rice Halwa Mix and then cut into desired shape after cooling it for say it is set in half an hour .

hi my kitchen flavors, your black halwa karuppu looks very different from most desserts.
i dont think i dare try this, because we dont have the black jaggery ingredient in malaysia.
i will to take a slice from yours here :)
