Wish U all a Very Happy Pongal. This Vada is healthier - as it is baked(requires 1/5 th the amount of oil ) than that is done using deep-frying . U can try it this Pongal day with other homely mouthwatering curries. This recipe has been given as the Healthy recipe of the Day. It needs 20 mins cooking time in the oven (If U r using an Oven over 20 ltrs Capacity add 4-5 mins in cooking time )and serves 4 nos. U can also deep or shallow fry the Vadas if U don't want it done using Oven. Try this recipe at home and Enjoy Ur Meal!. BonAppetit!.
Baked Masala Vada
Ingredients
1 cup Gramdal(kadalai Paruppu) - soaked for an hour
1 medium sized onion - finely chopped
2 - 3 green chillies -finely chopped
a pinch of Asafoetida
1/2 tsp saunf
1/3 tsp salt
1 tbsp refined oil
5-6 curry leaves - chopped fine
few chopped coriander leaves
Directions:
1.Grind coarsely soaked Gramdal and add asafoetida,saunf,salt,chopped onion,chopped green chiliies,curry and coriander leaves and mix them well togther.
2.Preheat the Oven to 160 C.Grease the baking tray with refined oil,make round shaped balls of the batter. Place them at equal space on the tray.Flatten them into round shaped vadas.Apply a drop of oil over each vada.
3.Bake them for 14 -15 mins at 160 C at the centre rack position and 5 more mins on the other side the same
temperature too.
4.Serve it hot with steamed rice,Indian Breads with Curries.
