Steamed Puttu with Moongdal-Spinach Masala

Steamed Cooking breakfast is mostly taken or preferred in South-India.It is termed as healthy and stands second after the Microwave Cooking.Steamed Raw rice (Puttu) is a top contender to Idli(Steamed Riceflour Mix pancakes) for the first spot in Breakfast Items.Its done with less-ingredients and is taken with Grated coconut -Sugar Mix or Green Moongdal Masala mostly.This Puttu preparation comes with its accompaniment steamed along it.Enjoy tassty and healthy breakfast with Steamed Puttu Masala.BonAppetit!.


Ingredients:
200 gm Raw rice Powder
1/4 tsp salt or needed
1 tsp cardamom powder(optional)
70 ml lukewarm water
3 tbsp grated coconut

Sprouted Moongdal-Spinach Masala Stuffing:

100gms sprouted Green Moongdal
1 cup chopped Spinach
1 small tomato - chopped fine
1 small onion - chopped fine
1/2 `tsp chole masala or subji masala
1/4 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp refined oil
2 tsp coriander leaves

Directions:

1.Spread the raw rice flour in a plate and sprinkle salt and Mix it well. Add grated coconut and cardamom powder(optional) over it.Knead it like a shredded dough sprinkling water little by little.
2.Prepare the Masala stuffing.Heat oil and saute chopped onion,chopped tomato,and salt.when tomato pieces begin to melt,add sprouted moongdal,spinach,subji masala or chole masala and garam masala powder(don't add water).
3.Stir-cook till the rawness of the masala gets reduced - ie. for 2-3 mins on good flame.The moongdal will get done while steaming.
4.Now wash the puttu maker instrument and add 1-2 inch level water and bring it to boil
5.Stuff the raw rice onelayer and then 1 cm height moongdal-spinach masala and then the raw rice puttu layer,again the masala etc.Close the puttu maker with the lid.
6.Steam-cook for 8-10 mins and leave it for 10 mins before serving it hot.

Hey, this is a cool idea. I always use coconut as a separator and we have it with kadala curry or payaru thoran (green moong curry). never thought of using it as a separator. will try this soon.
