This dish is very popular in south TamilNadu -where coconut paste ground with other spices is used instead of coconutmilk.This one is a little variation of that keeping in mind this one should go well with chapathi, dosa and parathas.Try and post your comments.
Yam in Coconut Milk Curry - Yam cooked with coconut milk and spices
Ingredients
200 gm Yam-cut into pieces
1/2 cup coconut milk
2 tsp ground spices -(1/2 tsp fennel seeds,2 green chillies,a sambar onion)
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 finely chopped onion
a sprig- curry leaves
1 cup - water
2 tsp refined oil
1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
few coriander leaves(chopped)
1/2 tsp garam masala
1 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp salt
Directions
1.Clean and cut yam pieces.grind fennel seeds with green chillies and a sambar onion.
2.Heat oil in a pressure pan ,add mustard seeds,fennel seeds,chopped onions,curry leaves and saute well.
3.Add ginger-garlic paste,turmeric powder,coriander leaves and salt and saute well.
4.Add yam pieces ,coconut milk and garam masala .Mix them well.
5.Add 1 cup water and pressure cook upto 1 whistle.
6.Add the lemon juice on top.
7.Garnish with coriander leaves.
8.Serve this hot with rice and chapatis.
