Bittergourd Poriyal (Stir Fry)

Tasty side dish to be taken with rice and Sambar or Curd rice. Can be done in 18 mins cooking-time. Try this side dish adding cooked green moongdal and enjoy this dish.

Bittergourd Poriyal(Stirfry) - Chopped bittergourd stirfried with spices

Ingredients :

200 gm Bittergourd - washed,de-seeded and chopped fine
3 tbsp grated coconut
4 tbsp green moongdal- pressure cooked upto 4 whistles(optional)
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp split uraddal-skinless
2 whole red chillies
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chilli powder
3 tbsp shallots (red onions) - chopped fine
few curry leaves
few coriander leaves
1 tsp salt-to taste
2 tsp refined oil
200 ml water

Directions:

    1.Heat oil in a kadai and add mustard seeds, uraddal, chopped onions,Whole red chillies and curry leaves, one-by-one and saute for 2-3 mins.
    2.Add bittergourd pieces,turmeric powder,coriander leaves,salt and water.Let it cook till the bittergourd pieces become tender (for 12 mins) on medium flame,stirring at-times.
    3.Add chilli powder and mix well.
    4.Add the grated coconut and cooked green moongdal(optional).Mix this well for 3 mins or till water runs dry on low flame.Turn off the flame.
    5.Serve this tasty Bittergourd Poriyal(Stir Fry) hot with rice,sambar,curd rice or Indian breads.
